Letter From Barna Begzad 2025

Dear the Washington County Association of Student Councils (WCASC),

I am Barna Begzad, and I sincerely thank you all for giving me the honor of serving as your WCASC President for the 2024-25 school year. Although I recently led my final WCASC General Assembly, I know this will not be my last moment with WCASC. From attending General Assemblies since freshman year, joining a committee and hosting MASC’s Convention as a sophomore, becoming a High School At-Large member as a junior, to serving as your President, WCASC has been a defining part of my high school journey. The memories and experiences I have gained will continue to shape who I am. I truly owe much of my growth and friendships to the people and opportunities WCASC has gifted me with.

As your President this year, I had the privilege of leading the Board of Student Leaders (BOSL) and our committees to spearhead amazing endeavors. Our Legislative Committee took months of preparation for their Advocacy Day, bringing students to Annapolis to speak with our legislators. Our Community Outreach Committee revamped our website, published newsletters, and posted on social media to spread the word of WCASC. Lastly, our Special Issues Committee brought the spirit of service to our General Assemblies through creative service projects. These initiatives not only strengthened WCASC but also inspired a new wave of student leaders to run for our 2025-26 BOSL.

Transitioning into our new generation of WCASC, I look forward to watching our student leaders continue to grow and thrive. To my successor, Torin Malott - your dedication has never failed to impress me. From the moment I met you through the Special Issues Committee last year, I knew you were destined to be an amazing leader. I am beyond proud to pass the torch to you. Stay committed, and you will go far. To the 2025-26 Board of Student Leaders - always remember your purpose and the reason you were elected as you serve on the Board. But just as importantly, have fun! Build lasting connections, take every opportunity as a chance to grow, and learn from the world around you. That is what WCASC truly is all about.

WCASC is a family - always has been and always will be. I am forever grateful that I, along with our SMOB Daphne Wang, Vice President Grace Hollingsworth, 2nd Vice President Swarit Upadhyay, and our talented BOSL, was able to leave our mark for the 2024-2025 school year.

Signing off as your 2024-2025 WCASC President,

Barna Begzad
